In NY, ABC Disney wants Cablevision to start paying $40 million dollars to provide ABC7 on its cable service. If CV does not comply, ABC service will stop 16 hours before the Oscars. I collected some ads that New york viewer may have seen, the CV one is entertainingly dirty.
I love to two opposing Ads, CableVision attacking ABC (Gets dirty at about 2:00), and ABC tugging the strings on its consumers. Totaly worth a watch. Watch the ABC ad, and the blatant detail of the Cablevision ad.

This issue does not effect me, i get my TV from the internet, and live on the West Coast. But, i have never heard of a broadcast network requiring so much money from a cable provider. Regardless of if you’re in NY or not, or even use a TV service provider, every TV viewer should be aware of ABC Disney’s moves to charge for broadcast TV.
This could lead to changes in your service provider including rate hikes, or if you watch online, a trend to for-pay “premium content”. If ABC succeeds there is no reason NBC, FOX, ect would not attempt the same deal, or that such a deal could only be struck with Cablevision or just with NY providers.
This is not the first time Cablevision has had this situation. They did the same sort of brutal honesty when they lost Scripps (HGTV, Food Network). I included the post break up ads because the other ones where poor quality, however Cablevisions ad was similar (but less harsh) to the one it aired about ABC.
